Mood Board: Home Office
Lately I’ve been thinking about my house more than usual — in a reflective, contemplative mood. I feel like I’m rounding a corner toward a clearer vision of how I want this home to feel. For a long time I’ve wavered on style, color and overall vibe: I’ll browse images online, then look around my rooms and consider what will actually work here.
I’m influenced strongly by how a space feels, so I don’t simply copy what looks good in a photo or on Pinterest. That might be easier sometimes, but it wouldn’t necessarily feel right in my home. I prefer to design in a way that feels authentic to me, even when it makes the process more challenging.
Of course I enjoy incorporating current trends, but I also have an aversion to following the crowd too much. The creative process for me includes taking risks and trying a slightly different approach. Making something uniquely mine matters more than repeating what everyone else is doing, even if it requires more effort.
Trying something a little off the beaten path is part of the creative process. I’m compelled to create a look that feels personal and lived-in, and that sometimes presents challenges. Creating something different isn’t always easy.
That said, I’ve learned to let my home evolve rather than forcing every decision quickly. There are awkward phases and a few missteps along the way, but allowing the house to grow into its own personality usually yields a result I’ll love for years. It takes time to understand what a space “wants” — a way of speaking I use to describe the feeling of a room — and to respond to that gradually.
Right now my home is hinting that it wants contrast and life — a balance of light and dark, color against neutral, and varied textures paired together. I’m aiming for a fresh blend of styles that feels lively but intentional.
There’s still a long way to go to pull everything together, but I’m beginning to see a clearer vision for the end result. Expect a little chaos while I get there; I’ll be sharing progress and inspiration in the coming weeks.
For now, I’m working on my office inspiration board.
You can see it above. A mood board is a starting point for capturing the vibe — not an exact blueprint, but a way to experiment and dream. Right now I’m planning to paint the office walls navy. I realize that might surprise some people, but I’m excited to try it. The transformation of this office — and the rest of the house — should be interesting. Fun, and maybe a little nerve-wracking, but ultimately worthwhile.
UPDATE: Come see how my HOME OFFICE finally came together!
The Home Office Makeover is here!

PS. Fun news: I started a new, trendy role last week — I’m now a pinner for Better Homes & Gardens magazine. It’s been a delightful surprise to go from hobby blogger to contributing curator of inspiring images. I’ve always loved Better Homes & Gardens, so being involved feels like a bit of a dream.
I’ve been pinning to a couple of BHG boards and continuing to curate my own Pinterest collections as my taste evolves. I’m still learning the ropes as a pinner, but it’s been a fun way to collect ideas and share inspiration.
Happy day, everyone!
