If I Lived Here: Weekend Home Inspiration and Design Ideas

Traditional Exterior design by JB Architecture Group, Inc.

house exterior ideas series the inspired roomWelcome to a new weekend series focused on striking home exteriors. Each week I’ll highlight an exterior that caught my eye online — sometimes elegant, sometimes uniquely interesting — and invite you to imagine living there.

I’ve missed doing a weekend series, so I’m excited to bring this one back. I can’t always do in-person drive-bys of favorite houses (many are far away), so I’ll be doing virtual drive-bys instead. This series is a way to enjoy beautiful curb appeal from wherever you are. Every weekend I’ll feature a different exterior and invite readers to finish the sentence, “If I lived here….” It’s a simple prompt to spark imagination and friendly conversation about what makes a house feel like home.

For this inaugural post, I’m sharing a classic traditional exterior that feels warm and welcoming. The balanced proportions, thoughtful detailing, and inviting porch are the kind of features that make a house feel lived-in and loved. Whether you notice the roofline, the window arrangements, or the landscaping that frames the façade, these elements combine to create a memorable first impression. Good exterior design doesn’t just protect a home — it sets a tone for daily life and tells a story about the people who live there.

Imagining life in a house is part of the fun. Picture morning coffee on the porch, watching neighbors walk by, or an evening porch light glowing as you unwind after the day. Small outdoor features — a bench, potted plants, or a hanging lantern — can transform a porch into an everyday retreat. The right exterior invites you to linger, connect with the street, and create simple rituals that make a place feel like yours.

If I lived here… I would spend long summer evenings on that porch, sipping lemonade and watching the world go by.

Now it’s your turn — how would you finish the sentence? Share what you’d do if this were your home, or what details you’d change to make it perfect for you.
