As many of you know, each month we pick up an inexpensive—or sometimes free—bouquet to keep things feeling fresh around here. The idea started with a thoughtful Christmas gift from John a while back, and this month he surprised us again by bringing home flowers after doing the grocery shopping solo. With Clara barely a few weeks old, the girls stayed home and sent him out for essentials. He came back not only with milk and eggs, but also a cheerful $4 bunch of yellow alstroemerias.

They look lovely on the console table by the front door, adding a bright, welcoming touch for visitors who have been popping by to see baby Clara. The flowers give the entryway a pop of color that suggests, yes, we have a newborn—but the house hasn’t fallen apart entirely. (Admittedly, a few other rooms are less tidy these days.)

Alstroemerias are one of our favorite budget-friendly grocery store blooms because they last. With simple care—fresh water every few days and trimming the stems on an angle roughly every week or so—these bouquets can easily stay vibrant for three to four weeks. The yellow variety feels especially cheerful and fresh, a nice change from the soft pinks we’ve chosen in the past.

For the vase, we avoided anything busy or bright and used a simple square glass vessel we had on hand. Its clean lines balance the glass greenhouse on the opposite side of the console and allow the yellow blooms and fresh green foliage to be the focal point.
So that’s this month’s budget bouquet update. Are you enjoying alstroemerias or other affordable flowers lately? Do you have any backyard blooms you’ve clipped to brighten a kitchen or living room? We’d love to hear what flowers are bringing a little extra happiness into your home and how you’re displaying them.
