Modern Farmhouse Bar Stools for Kitchen Islands and Counters

I’ve been hunting for the perfect barstools for my kitchen. Even though our island doesn’t have a raised bar top, when Better Homes & Gardens visited we discovered the island is wonderfully comfortable for a cup of coffee or for food prep. The stylist had brought a yellow stool for the shoot, which looked great in photos, but I wasn’t ready to commit to that bright color.

Then I spotted a set of white stools with wooden seats at Target and immediately stopped in my tracks. They were so charming—simple, farmhouse-inspired, and exactly the look I’d been picturing.

I decided I’d probably want two, but in typical fashion I bought only one to try it in the space first. Of course I loved it the moment I placed it by the island. Predictably, when I went back the next morning the display stools were gone. After searching the store and checking with staff, I ordered another online. The website only sold them in pairs, so now I’ll be receiving two more stools. That works out fine—I can use the extra stools around the island when we have guests or tuck them by a dish cabinet for extra seating.

They’re just that cute. I’m always excited to add practical, attractive pieces to the kitchen, and this little metal-and-wood combination feels fresh without being flashy. I also picked up a small metal plant stand at Target and have a few ideas for styling it on the island.

Have you found any lovely additions for your home lately?
