It’s no secret in our house — we adore funny animals. From reading Frog & Toad until we laughed until we cried, to sharing animal photos and silly videos, animals are a constant source of joy for our family.

We even have a playful animal gallery wall in the kids’ bathroom that always makes us smile.

We love animal movies like Babe, and at home we share funny pet moments every day. Text threads filled with animal pictures are a normal part of our routine.

When we were out shopping at Michaels recently, hunting for a dream tree theme, we stumbled upon the perfect idea for our family: a woodland animal theme. Tiny bottlebrush critters, felt mice and pinecone animals felt charming and sweet — never tacky — and they immediately captured our hearts.

There were so many adorable woodland ornaments popping up in stores that the idea felt inevitable once we saw them in person. The little animals seemed like the ideal companions for a tree dressed in golden pinecones, glittery garland and rustic burlap ribbon.

We planned a handmade ornament project to go with the Woodland Tree, but an unexpected hiccup delayed our crafting. My daughter’s dependable ten-year-old Honda broke down in Seattle, and in the confusion the trunk — with our supplies inside — was left behind when the car was towed. We later learned the transmission had failed. It was an unfortunate week, and our planned crafts are still waiting to be completed.

Despite that setback, we’ll be revealing our Woodland Tree soon. Expect a full reveal on Wednesday, and hopefully some homemade ornaments to share the following weekend.

Stay tuned later today for a special “3 Looks” inspiration board post and a coupon code for Red Letter Words.

Happy Monday before Thanksgiving, everyone!

The Dream Christmas Tree Challenge gift card for ornaments and the tree was provided by Michaels. You’ll be able to see the other participants’ trees this week as well; I’ll share the link in our reveal post.
