Transitioning to Autumn: Cozy Home & Wardrobe Tips for Fall

Patio Flowers for Autumn - Mums

Hi friends! Michaela here for my monthly post at TIR. I can’t believe it’s already fall — where did the summer go? As you may remember from my last update, I recently moved from California to Michigan, so this summer felt different for me (hello, humidity). To welcome my favorite season, I’m easing into autumn with a few simple touches around my apartment.

1. Mums on the patio. If you live in an apartment, adding colorful potted flowers to your deck or small patio brings instant life to the space. I found a little vintage stool at a thrift shop and placed one of my two mums in a metal basket to add texture and a cozy, layered look.

2. Celebrate the last days of summer with fruity ice cubes. If you’re sad to see summer end, a simple way to savor it is by freezing seasonal fruit in ice cubes for iced tea, lemonade or water. Guests always notice these little details and they make any gathering feel special.

I used orange slices and blueberries. Just freeze them in water in a tray, then add the flavored cubes to your drink for a pretty, flavorful touch.

3. Add a seasonal quote to your entry or gallery wall. Write your favorite fall quote on a small chalkboard or print and frame it to create a welcoming, seasonal vignette. A short, encouraging message can help you shift into autumn mode each time you pass by.
