White kitchen with yellow and turquoise via BHG
Sometimes, when I should be doing something responsible—like finishing taxes—I end up browsing color schemes and interiors online. That’s how I find rooms like this sunny kitchen.
Turquoise Roman shades — BHG
I look at it and think, this room feels cheerful and bright. I like the combination of clean white surfaces with pops of turquoise and sunny yellow.
I start imagining turquoise shades, patterned pillows and yellow cookware when I eventually repaint my kitchen. The idea lingers and I daydream about small touches: yellow tulips in simple white pots on the table, a few turquoise accents by the window.
Before long, I forget what I was doing in the first place because it’s easy to lose myself in decorating ideas.
True story.
The end.
Oh wait, not quite the end.
Then I come across another white kitchen that stops me in my tracks:
White kitchen with marble countertops — BHG
The soaring ceiling, the crisp white cabinets, the light flooding through the windows, marble counters and rich dark wood floors — it all feels so elegant. I find myself remembering a different kitchen I once had with marble and how a simple accident (a red popsicle melting on the surface) left a lasting mark and a story to tell.
As I admire the marble, my attention drifts to another detail that sparks inspiration.
French door on barn-style hardware
A barn-style French door — what a clever and stylish touch. Immediately I start scanning my own home for a place to add a similar feature. The idea feels fresh and doable, and once again I lose focus on whatever task I should have been doing.
The end.
For now.
