For as long as I can remember I’ve believed in creating little destinations around the home where our family can relax and make memories. Especially now, having cozy, inviting spots to escape to without leaving the house feels more important than ever.
I always look forward to when the weather warms and we can bring life back to our patio and deck. I love the chance to style outdoor spaces and have enjoyed working on these areas over the past few years.
That said, the journey here hasn’t always been smooth. The side patio was meant to be a quick winter project but it dragged on for years with unexpected setbacks. Those early stages were more frustrating than fun, and it often felt like the project that would never end.
We still have a few items left from the original plan, like finishing the outdoor lighting on the concrete steps and installing outlets for string lights. But that’s okay—those details will come in time. The delays were frustrating, but now that they’re behind us, we genuinely enjoy spending time in our outdoor spaces.
When the sun returned last week I pulled the cushions out and set up the deck and patio. We keep our outdoor furniture out year-round, but the cushions, umbrellas, and rugs are stored in our sheds for winter. It’s always satisfying to unpack them and see the space come to life again.
This year we rearranged our outdoor rooms to refresh the look and better suit how we’ll use the space. I picked up a few new pieces so we could create a family gathering area with white adirondack chairs, striped cushions, and a compact fire pit.
I miss browsing garden centers for spring finds, but online shopping has helped fill the gap. I’ve gathered some of my outdoor favorites and sales to inspire your own setup.

We rearranged the furniture on the deck too. The dining table moved and we brought down the sectional pieces we’ve had since our previous home. A blue-and-white bench we used inside over winter has found a perfect spot on the deck, adding both color and extra seating.
I can already tell we’ll spend a lot of time out here this summer. Family members have been sprawled on the sectional and we’ve eaten dinner at the outdoor table—signs that the arrangement feels comfortable and welcoming.
I’m looking forward to planting pots and watching everything bloom.
