Hi, friends! Kylee here to share the update on my new home office. My husband and I work from home a few days each week, so we were thrilled to finally have a dedicated workspace that feels inviting and functional.

For years this small room in our Seattle townhouse served as our guest room. After my sister moved into her own place, we shifted the guest bed and the room slowly became a catchall of furniture and a TV spot. It wasn’t attractive or practical, and I rarely wanted to spend time in there.

When my mom offered to help with a makeover using pieces from World Market, I jumped at the chance. The transformation made the room a place I actually enjoy. With a few thoughtful changes, our attitude about “going to work” at home has improved too.

Let me show you around.

We started by emptying the room and applying a fresh coat of paint. Clearing everything out allowed us to plan the space with intention and decide exactly what was needed for function and flow.

My goal was a room that felt light and airy while remaining practical.

The office sits on the third floor and we have tight stair turns, so furniture had to be compact and easy to maneuver. The room itself is small, which steered our choices toward slim, easy-to-assemble pieces.

World Market offers a great selection of furniture and accessories for small spaces, which made sourcing pieces simple. We were also fortunate to have a closet in the room for storage, helping to keep the main area uncluttered and streamlined.

I love my new desk. Its open design keeps the room feeling spacious while giving us the surface we need. If we hadn’t had closet storage, I might have chosen a desk with more built-in storage or added a rolling cart, but this layout works perfectly for us.

We fit two chairs, the desk and a small table so both Lance and I can work comfortably without the space feeling cramped.

Because the furniture is streamlined and clutter is minimized, we had room for plants that add an organic element. A wall mirror also helps the room feel larger and brighter.

Functional desktop accessories like a memo board, pencil cup, lidded containers and notebooks keep everyday items organized and visually appealing without cluttering the surfaces.

Even in a tight space, you don’t have to choose only small items. I wondered if the rattan chair would be too much, but it turned out to be a perfect statement piece. It’s tall enough to play with the vaulted ceiling yet its open design keeps the room from feeling overwhelmed. The chair is shallow, so it doesn’t take up much floor space. An oversized pouf rounds out the seating and is ideal for putting my feet up.

Bella loves the cozy spots too, so we share the chair often. She adds a soft, lived-in texture to the room.

This chair has become my go-to morning coffee spot. I enjoy a quiet cup before starting the day, and the handy laptop table is great for working from that cozy corner.

A linen rug placed diagonally anchors the room, adds color and ties the design together. Layering a rug over carpet is a simple way to update the look and introduce pattern and texture.

Leo is a fan of the office too — he insisted on modeling on the rug.

We all love the new office — dogs included. A bit of paint and a few well-chosen pieces completely changed the room. I only wish we had done it sooner.
