Remember when I mentioned months ago that we were repainting the bedroom? We finally finished and I wanted to share the color and the finished look. Painting a dark wall color with crisp white trim is a meticulous process, so it took longer than expected for my very perfectionist painter—my husband—to complete. The wait was worth it: we truly love the result.

The bedroom still needs a few finishing touches, such as blinds, but it’s nearly complete. Because the room is smaller than a grand master suite, we decided to embrace coziness rather than a light, airy approach used elsewhere in the house. The darker walls create a snug, intimate feel that contrasts with the rest of our home and makes this space feel uniquely special.

This room has become my favorite master bedroom so far. We chose a bold, unexpected color for the walls that gives the space mood and romance without feeling heavy or unwelcoming. Morning sunlight fills the room, so it reads bright and cheerful in the morning and deep and dramatic in the evenings. The white crown molding, ceiling, and trim provide a crisp contrast that keeps the look fresh.

The paint is Black Frosted Plum by Glidden. It blends charcoal depth with a subtle plum undertone that shifts throughout the day. In daylight it warms and softens the room, while at night it reads as a rich, dark charcoal. The color creates a romantic, moody atmosphere that remains inviting rather than brooding.

Plum can be tricky, so we balanced it with layered materials. Feminine touches like a mirrored glass nightstand and a crystal-and-gold chandelier add sparkle and softness, while a traditional dark wood sleigh bed grounds the design with a more masculine presence. A plush faux-fur throw adds texture and warmth, making the overall scheme feel balanced and lived-in.

We chose a pale gray-and-white duvet with charcoal toile details and gold stitching. The reverse is white with sketched feathers—a fresh, whimsical take on classic romantic bedding that adds personality to the room. The toile pattern breaks up the seriousness of the dark walls with a playful touch.
“This delightful bedding features top-hat-clad foxes keeping watch in the foreground of a toile thicket.”
That quirky description captured why I loved it. The toile and the dark gray quilt were splurges, while neutral shams and linen drapes from other shops provided more affordable balance. I’m looking forward to swapping in lighter colors for summer to soften the overall palette when the season changes.

Although I never imagined picking plum for a bedroom, I’m now completely smitten with how this one turned out. The white and charcoal accents harmonize with the hallway walls and slate floors just outside the room, creating a cohesive transition between spaces.
I love curling up here every night. It truly feels like a retreat for both of us.

I’ll share more angles and styling ideas from this room in a future update.
Have a great day!

Similar bed styles, mirrored nightstands, faux fur throws, textured shams, linen drapes, and crystal flushmount lights were used to achieve the layered look shown in the photos. Many of the decorative pieces mix splurges with budget-friendly finds for balance.
