Drive By: A Tribute to Two Favorite Inspirations

I recently drove down to Portland for a couple of days and, while passing through Lake Oswego, leaned out the car window to snap a few photos of two favorite houses. Being back in that neighborhood stirred up a lot of nostalgia—I miss it there!

These homes have appeared previously in my “drive bys,” but I managed to capture fresh springtime angles this visit. The day was warm and sunny, and everything felt bright and inviting. I never tire of their charm.

The yellow lakeside house sits right on the water in Lake Oswego, just across a small canal from where I lived in high school. I love its picket fence, blue shutters, classic lanterns, the stone walkway leading to the entrance, and those vibrant coral tulips that punctuate the scene.

The other house is in the First Addition neighborhood, close to where my family lived when my girls were young. I’ve photographed it before, but this time I caught a different view of the open gate. Walking through that area brings back such fond memories of simple neighborhood strolls.

I really wanted to hop out of the car and peek through the gate to show you the porch and front yard up close—what a charming spot. In one of the photos you can spot Adirondack chairs tucked away on the porch. I wasn’t able to stop and explore this time, but next visit I plan to get out and take a closer look. I promise to bring better photos of the porch and garden then.

It’s been a long week, so I’ll keep this short and move on to the Inspired Linkies. What inspired you this week? Share your posts below and link directly to the relevant entry—please avoid linking to home pages.
