Happy almost 2019, friends! As the year turns many of us set personal goals, but do you set goals for your home? Before planning ahead, I like to look back with gratitude for the improvements—big and small—we’ve made so far. Reflecting helps me see what worked and what I want to prioritize next (I’ll share our project recap soon).
Next I consider what matters most to our family. Are there updates that would protect our home as an investment or enhance our family’s well-being? Thinking about purpose helps me prioritize projects that truly matter rather than chasing every idea on a long to-do list.
Each year I post a Home Goals worksheet to help you plan what’s important. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by projects—so I often get asked where to start. A simple goal sheet like the one above helps me think realistically and narrow in on the most meaningful improvements for our home. It’s also a handy tool to revisit throughout the year to track progress and remind you of priorities.

As an initial step in planning, it really helps to define the main purposes for your home. When you identify what you want your home to accomplish—whether it’s a place of rest, a nurturing environment for family, a spot for gathering friends, a space for hobbies or a home business, or simply a sanctuary from stress—choosing specific goals becomes much clearer and more intentional.
