HHello! I loved reading your responses yesterday about winter in the kitchen. Today I’d enjoy hearing about your kitchen in the comments — it’s always fun to learn where you live and how you use the space. If you missed the first five tips in part one, you can read that post later. For now, here are tips six through ten — the second half of ten cozy winter kitchen rituals to brighten your days.

6. Organize your kitchen.

Organizing the kitchen has been my favorite evening activity lately, especially on cold nights when the room is still warm from cooking. After unloading the dishwasher I spend a little time puttering through drawers, deciding what would bring the most joy and usefulness to each space.

Grouping spatulas, utensils and baking tools in pretty containers makes drawers feel neat and approachable. You can use items you already own — small bowls, trays and baskets work well as organizers. If nothing you have fits, measure your drawers and note the sizes and shapes you need before shopping.

There’s a quiet comfort in nesting and organizing during winter. Little changes can make a big difference in how your kitchen feels and functions.

7. Bring in light.

January can be dark, so think about ways to introduce more light into your kitchen. If adding windows or major lighting isn’t possible right now, try setting a lamp on the counter, placing reflective metal cookware like copper pots where they catch light, or bringing in warm-colored accessories. Even small sources of light and reflective surfaces help the room feel brighter and cozier.

Focus on warmth and atmosphere rather than a clinical look — softer, layered lighting and homey touches make a big difference on dreary days.

8. Refresh your kitchen linens.

Replacing tired dish towels and linens is an easy mood booster. New tea towels or a fresh set of dishcloths can brighten the space and make daily tasks feel a bit more pleasant. Simple fabric updates are one of the quickest ways to refresh the kitchen.

9. Focus on your health and well-being.

Make small habits in the kitchen that support your health. Let natural light in each morning, and keep the sink clean at the end of the day. Start the day with a healthy beverage — even if cold water isn’t appealing in winter, using a favorite bottle can help you drink more throughout the day. I like filling a stainless bottle each morning and refilling it as needed so I stay hydrated without adding to the sink pile.

Adding a slice of lemon, lime, or a safe, food-grade essential oil to a glass or stainless bottle can make drinking water more enjoyable. Prioritizing small rituals like these supports overall well-being and makes time spent in the kitchen more pleasant.

10. Prepare for spring.

Use winter to imagine and plan for spring. Bring in a plant or a tiered fruit stand for a pop of color, or make a habit of buying a small bouquet at a local market to lift the room. Planning a small kitchen garden or deciding which herbs to grow this year gives you something to anticipate and tends to brighten a dreary season.

Even simple touches — bright fruit, a potted herb, or fresh flowers — remind you that spring is coming and add life to a winter kitchen.
