While the contractors were finishing a few final touches in our kitchen, we decided to set up a second small Christmas tree. A while back, while working on our Woodland Christmas tree, we picked up silhouette rubber stamps, gift tags and washi tape at Michaels. They turned out to be perfect for a simple, cozy rainy-day craft.

I tend to plan elaborate DIY tutorials, but this one is intentionally easy. Don’t be intimidated by the steps — it’s fast and satisfying.
Simple 5-Step Gift Tag Ornaments
- Stamp your blank tags with silhouette rubber stamps.
- Apply washi tape in random strips or patterns across the tags.
- For some tags, glue a piece of patterned paper onto the tag for added texture.
- Punch a hole near the top of each tag.
- Thread string or twine through the hole and hang on the tree.

And that’s it — a handful of handmade gift-tag ornaments to dress a small tree with a clean, monochrome look.
I considered a clever name for the tree, but calling it a Black & White Tree felt right. I bought the white tree at Kohl’s a few weeks ago, and it provides a crisp backdrop for the simple tags and stamped silhouettes.
Two trees done — not bad considering the house has been in flux while projects wrapped up. The last contractor left yesterday until after the holidays, which means there’s only a little more painting left to do and it can wait until after Christmas. For the next few weeks the house feels calm and truly mine again, which is a wonderful feeling.

The linky party will go live Friday night at 10 PM ET / 7 PM PST — get a head start and be ready to link up then!
