This post is in partnership with Behr
Before I share my new bedroom paint color, a quick note: I’m hosting a Color Clinic with Behr Paint this Thursday, March 15 from Noon–3pm EST (9am–Noon PST). I’ll be answering paint questions on Facebook on The Inspired Room and Behr’s pages—hope you’ll stop by and say hello!
Let’s talk about my freshly repainted bedroom. We chose Seagull Gray by Behr in eggshell enamel. When we first moved to Seattle, our bedroom was the first room we painted. With a busy season of moving and writing a book, having a cozy retreat felt essential, so we painted it a dark, moody color we loved.

That first coat gave us a pulled-together space while we renovated the rest of the house. Now that other areas feel settled, I began to rethink the bedroom. It wasn’t that we disliked the dark color—we did love it—but I wanted a change that better fit our evolving design direction. After some hesitation, I convinced my husband to repaint the room.

As I grew more sure of the overall color flow for the house, it felt right to move to a lighter, calmer palette. Repainting can be a hassle, but it’s worth it when the final look aligns with your vision. Once the room was painted Seagull Gray, we both knew it was the perfect choice. The soft neutral creates a peaceful backdrop and lets other elements in the room shine without competing for attention.

Seagull Gray is a subtle neutral with occasional cool or slightly blue undertones depending on the light. It pairs beautifully with the white woodwork and gives the room a fresh, airy feel. I’ll share the full design board and the rest of the progress in a follow-up post.
Even with the soft neutral base, I’m adding contrast with navy blue and crisp white, plus patterned textiles for interest. I’m also finally getting the bed I’ve wanted for years, which feels like a small jubilee after years of patience.

Several of you asked where the cabinet from our dining room ended up—now you know. I like that it doesn’t scream “bedroom” when seen from the front hallway; it reads as a layered, collected piece in the space.
For inspiration, I put together a color palette to complement Seagull Gray. We painted the small round frame on the cabinet in City Rain from the palette. These colors can be used in many ways—walls, trim, cabinets, furniture, fabrics, and accessories—to create a cohesive, layered look.
Don’t forget to bring your questions to the Color Clinic on Facebook this Thursday! I’ll be available to help with color selection and sheen choices Thursday, March 15 from Noon–3pm EST (9am–Noon PST) on both The Inspired Room and Behr’s Facebook pages.

If you want to explore color tools in the meantime, Behr offers a Color Clinic site, a sheen guide, a Pins to Palettes tool for extracting palettes from Pinterest boards, and a Color Discovery tool to help you choose colors based on the mood you want to create. These resources make it easier to visualize how color will work in your home.
