Flower Foraging and New Guide to Seasonal Gardening

Foraging for flowers and greenery in my own yard is one of my favorite springtime rituals. It’s free, calming, and brings natural beauty into the home without adding clutter. A handful of stems can quickly cheer a room and fill it with scent.

Recently I treated myself to a new gardening book for Mother’s Day and have been dreaming of designing a cutting garden in the backyard. Rows of flowers, easy access to blooms for arranging — it feels like the perfect project to keep inspiration flowing.

Court and I spent a morning wandering the yard, gathering blooms for a bouquet. Even without a formal cutting garden, we found lovely flowers on trees and shrubs and little surprises popping up throughout the beds. Peonies, roses, and hydrangeas aren’t fully in yet, but we still ended up with an abundance of vases filled with fragrant, cheerful stems.

I’m sharing a few snapshots from our morning of foraging and arranging. We aren’t professional florists or gardeners, just two people enjoying fresh flowers and the simple pleasure of creating small arrangements. It was relaxing, creative, and felt a little like therapy. I hope these May flowers bring you as much joy as they did for us.
