31-Day Autumn Series — Day 24: Sunday Drive Through Fall Scenery

Time for another Autumn Sunday drive by!

I have a soft spot for fairy-tale houses, so I always enjoy spotting ones that stand apart from the cookie-cutter crowd. On a recent drive I came across this charming home on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle, with a glorious view of the city.

The property surprised me with whimsical touches — even giant chess pieces on the front lawn. Those unexpected details give the house a playful, storybook quality.

I like to get close and study the architectural details. Notice the vintage lanterns by the entry, the decorative ironwork above the door, and the carved accents around the windows and beneath the sills — all small touches that add up to a lot of character.

I briefly worried I might have been peeking, since the shutters were closed by the time I walked away. I assure you I stayed on the sidewalk — just an admiring passerby.

Looking up at one window reveals a stained-glass skylight and gracefully arched panes — another element that contributes to the home’s fairy-tale feel.

From the balcony to the roofline, every angle feels distinctive. I couldn’t help wondering what the interior looks like — I imagine cozy nooks, interesting trim, and plenty of vintage charm. At any moment I half expected someone to let down their hair from that balcony like in a storybook scene.

Even the street in front of the house felt slightly enchanted, lined with mature trees and a sense of quiet that suits this kind of home.

Do you have any fairy-tale houses where you live?
