When we bought our 1950s house last year, we loved many features but also inherited several dated elements. Replacing everything wasn’t an option because of budget and time limits, yet the home had solid bones and lots of potential. We decided to tackle changes gradually, focusing on affordable updates that would make the biggest visual impact.
Progress has come one project at a time. Each week the house looks a bit more cohesive and comfortable. Small, thoughtful changes have transformed the overall feel, and I’m excited to share more in an upcoming fall house tour.
One of our first DIY projects was a fireplace refresh, and it proved how transformative paint and a few simple updates can be. If you haven’t seen the original condition, the difference is dramatic—paint really was an affordable game changer that refreshed the entire room without a major renovation.
On the Life Storage blog I shared the before-and-after photos, the story behind our budget fireplace makeover, and three practical ways to refresh a room without spending a fortune.
