Toddler Girl’s Room Reveal: Charming Decor Ideas & Before-and-After

Toddler Girls Room Reveal on The Inspired Room

Hello friends! It’s Cassie here with my monthly guest post. This month I’m excited to share our daughter’s new bedroom. We’ve been focusing on the kids’ spaces at home, and finally managed to finish one room that feels cozy and functional.

With a baby boy joining our family this August, we needed to rearrange rooms. Our daughter’s nursery was in the smallest bedroom while the second bedroom served mainly as storage and occasional guest space. We planned to move her into the larger room and keep the smaller room for the new baby, using mostly furniture and decor we already owned to avoid unnecessary purchases.

We’re waiting a few months before transitioning her to the “big girl” bed, so she still sleeps in her crib in the nursery for now. We did buy a toddler bed and neutral bedding, chosen to be simple and gender-neutral so it’ll work for her brother when the time comes.

The overall palette is intentionally gender neutral with subtle feminine accents. Since a boy and a girl may share the room someday, I avoided bold, gendered choices that would require repainting. I repurposed artwork from her old room and reused tissue banners from her first birthday to add softness. I also displayed a few of her pretty shoes—too lovely to hide in a closet.

We painted two walls: the wall behind her bed and the half wall behind the shelves. The color is “Fawn Brindle,” a warm neutral grey that complements existing pieces without matching her old room exactly. To add whimsy, I applied white and gold cloud decals to the larger wall, which gave the space a playful, lighthearted touch.

Redone Dresser with Mixed knobs

The two main DIY projects were the dresser and the curtains. I kept the white curtain panels from her previous room because I liked them and they already had blackout liners. To introduce color without buying new curtains, I dip-dyed them using two fabric dyes—light pink and tangerine—to achieve a coral tone. The process was straightforward and I’m very happy with the result.

Refinishing the dresser took more time. It’s a well-made piece that belonged to my husband growing up, originally a golden-honey tone. I considered many finishes before finding a tutorial that inspired an industrial-rustic look, which suited the dresser perfectly. After refinishing, I updated the hardware with mixed gold knobs for a fresh, modern feel and had my husband secure the dresser to the wall for safety.

There are still a few small things left to finish, but we’re thrilled with how the room turned out. Even though our daughter hasn’t started sleeping there yet, she enjoys the space, and we’re pleased that most items were repurposed or chosen with durability and versatility in mind.
