Spring Flowers for the Front Porch
This Saturday I’m hosting a garden party at the Home Depot! If you are in the Seattle area, I hope you’ll stop by and say hello. I’ll be there with Chef Amy Pennington and garden expert Teena Spindler — and hopefully my girls and maybe Bella the pup, too. It should be a lot of fun. I’ll share event details later in the post, but first I want to show you a little of my front porch, which is the only part of the yard I’ve worked on since winter.
One of the things we loved about our house is the roomy front porch. It has space for accessories and planter boxes, and I enjoy adding seasonal plants near the door. While I was at Home Depot picking up whiskey barrels for my backyard garden, I also grabbed a few plants for the porch. The pink hydrangeas were irresistible — hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers. At a previous house we had a huge blue hydrangea that produced so many blooms neighbors used to stop by and ask to cut some. I hope to grow plants that large here someday.
I also found an orange tree with the most amazing scent. I want to hold it to my nose all day, so placing it by the front door feels like the next best thing. I may move it to the backyard for the summer, but for now it sits on my little teak teacart.
Random side note: one of my favorite spots at Disney is California Adventure because I always remember the wonderful smell flying over the orange orchards.

I also brought home a sweet lavender topiary — one of those finds that instantly lifts your mood.
One of my happiest places is a garden center. I get overwhelmed in lumber, but I could spend hours browsing plants, pots, and soil in the garden section.
Do you enjoy browsing the garden section as much as I do? I can’t wait for summer!
Ready to get your hands dirty?
Come hang out with me!
Join me at the Issaquah Home Depot this Saturday (6200 E Lake Sammamish Pkwy NE, Issaquah, WA 98029) on May 17 from 1–4 PM for the Seattle Garden Party. There will be garden-themed activities and garden-to-table fare with recipes created by Chef Amy Pennington. If you have gardening questions, expert gardener Teena Spindler will lead an herb container garden project and answer questions. It’s going to be fun — I hope to see you there. #SpringMadeSimple
