Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post!

I aim to keep holiday decorating simple and stress-free. In this post I’ll explain what simple looks like for our home and show how I put together a cozy porch using a few well-chosen pieces from Walmart. Shopping online made it easy to create a relaxed, welcoming space that will work through the season.

Our previous home had tiny covered porches—just enough to keep guests dry while they rang the doorbell. Our new porch is large enough to sit and linger, which made me excited to create a cozy spot for morning coffee or an evening chat with hot cocoa. I wanted it to feel festive without being overdone.

To add a little holiday sparkle, I placed three lighted birch trees around the seating area. They look magical after dark and provide soft, inviting light. I added two navy plaid throw blankets for warmth and woven tree pillows to winterize our Adirondack chairs. Large aqua mugs give us something warm to hold while enjoying the view.

The birch trees come with bases, but I tucked a couple of them into baskets to give them a finished, homey look. Using baskets adds texture and helps the trees blend into the porch decor.

This porch feels simple and intentional—decorated just enough to be cozy and holiday-ready without feeling cluttered. Your version of simple might look different, and that’s the point: decorate in a way that brings you comfort and joy.

There’s a lot of holiday inspiration online and it can feel overwhelming. Don’t let that pressure take the joy out of the season. Use ideas that inspire you and ignore the rest. I find Walmart makes holiday prep easier by offering a wide selection in one place. My goal is always to add just enough decor to make the home feel special and memorable, without creating more work for myself.

When I decorate for the holidays I pick a few key areas—like a mantel, staircase, front door, porch, or a table—and focus on one spot at a time. I add a simple touch and then decide whether to stop or move to the next area. Often the first touch is enough. Some years I do more, other years I keep it minimal. Give yourself permission to do what feels right this season.

The best approach is whatever brings you peace and happiness. Life changes from year to year, and your decorations can change too. Honor the season you’re in and decorate in a way that helps you feel present and cozy. I’ll share more thoughts on this in a future post.
