Explore Langley Washington: Top Things to See and Do

Hi friends, it’s Courtney! It’s been a while since I shared an “Out to See” post on The Inspired Room, and I’m excited to tell you about a charming little destination we visited recently.

“Out to See” is a travel series my mom named after her childhood memories of “going out to sea” on the canal behind her grandparents’ house off the Puget Sound.

My husband, son and I took a day trip to Langley, Washington, a picturesque town at the south end of Whidbey Island overlooking the Saratoga Passage. We all have fond connections to Whidbey Island, and it’s also where we were engaged a few years ago.

The photos here are from two visits—one in summer and one in fall. Langley was lovely both times, and I imagine the town must be especially magical around the holidays. Below I share a few favorite spots and recommendations if you plan to visit.

We began both visits with brunch at The Braeburn. It’s a popular spot and often has a wait, but the food and atmosphere make it worth the time.

The interior is cozy, and there’s a nice outdoor patio as well. The vibe reminded me of one of my favorite Seattle restaurants, The Fat Hen, which I was sorry to hear recently closed.

On my first visit I had the farmhouse skillet; the second time I tried a goat cheese and pesto omelette. Both were delicious. Their menu looked full of great options, and they also serve lunch and some dinners.

On our most recent visit we shared a biscuit from The Commons Cafe to tide us over before brunch—simple and satisfying.

Grayhorse Mercantile was one of my favorite shops in Langley—beautifully curated home items and gifts that felt timeless and nicely handpicked.

Alma is another lovely shop; I especially adored their baby and kids section—so many sweet pieces and thoughtful items.

An adorable cobblestone alleyway sealed my affection for Langley. The colorful buildings, fall foliage, string lights and street lanterns make the downtown feel genuinely charming and walkable.

The bouquets outside Flying Bear stopped me in my tracks. They’re a full-service flower shop with lovely arrangements and thoughtful gift items inside.

It was fun to spot our friend Emily Lex’s books at SeaGlass Cove. Seeing local creators represented in small shops always feels special.

We wandered several other stores, including Callahan’s Firehouse, a glass-blowing studio with beautiful pieces; The Star Store; The Creative Bookworm bookstore; Wish by the Sea; and more eclectic, locally owned shops that make a visit to Langley feel unique.

We brought home several slices from Whidbey Pies to share with friends later—each variety we tried was flavorful and satisfying.

On our way out we grabbed drinks at Salty Sea Coffee next door. We tried two specials—a Cinnamon Streusel Oat Milk Latte and a Peach Pie Steamer—and enjoyed both.

Does it get any more peaceful than sitting in Adirondack chairs with a view like this? I could have stayed there all afternoon.

Other places on our list to try next time include Prima Bistro, Village Pizzeria, Sweet Mona’s Chocolate, and Savory. If you’ve been to Langley, I’d love your recommendations for spots we should visit on a future trip.
