After a week of back-to-back snowstorms here in Seattle, I’m definitely ready for spring. Don’t get me wrong—I’ve enjoyed being cozy at home. Snow like this is rare for us, so I’ve been savoring the hygge vibes. Still, being snowed in was the perfect excuse to do some spring nesting.

I focused on quick, practical refreshes—things you can do fast so you can enjoy the results right away. Today I’ll share three rooms I refreshed this week at home with simple, mood-boosting updates.

After a long winter I start to feel restless staring at the same decor every day. A small change of scenery, even inside your own home, can make a big difference in your mood.

For me, a refresh doesn’t need to be dramatic. I tend to take a “get ’em-done-so-you-can-enjoy-them” approach—small projects that make a space feel refreshed immediately.

Green Dragonfly Bowls

I’m not jetting off to a beach—my refresh project happened right in the hallway at home. It was intentionally small and quick, but the effect was huge for my mood.

This wall had been bare all winter—just two exposed nails. Every time I walked by it felt unfinished. I kept saying to myself, “I should do something about that wall,” but didn’t act—until this week.

I grabbed a framed painting from another room and hung it on one nail, then placed a metal candle holder with a battery votive on the other. It was an unconventional pairing for that spot, but it passed the “sparks joy” test immediately.

I didn’t move the nails out of convenience—I didn’t want to hunt for a hammer—so I worked with what was already there. Sometimes a quick solution is all you need; you can always tweak later.

Adding greenery was next. I’d previously had a live plant here, but the light wasn’t right. Faux plants are perfect for darker spots, so I used a galvanized plant stand and faux ferns to bring life to the hallway without worrying about light or upkeep.

The plant stand is small and easy to tuck into tight spaces, and within minutes the hallway felt complete. Spring hall refresh: done.

Garden Sign

Feeling motivated, I headed out to the side yard for a quick outdoor update. The walk through snow in my slippers slowed me down, but the refresh itself was fast. Hanging a simple sign outside instantly lifted my spirits and made the space feel cared for despite the winter conditions.

Back inside, I added bright faux peonies and a faux succulent to bring a pop of color. Peonies always feel celebratory, and using faux blooms gives that same lift without the maintenance.

A little color goes a long way—pink peonies can brighten a corner and boost your mood. If you want to go further, consider creating a miniature garden with small vessels and accessories for a fun, therapeutic weekend project.
