Rattan Daybed Source
When we first found our house and began imagining the living room, we pictured a window bench along one wall. As plans evolved, we decided a freestanding daybed would be more versatile—a place for extra seating, a cozy spot for naps and reading, and even a makeshift guest bed for visiting family.

The room’s standout feature is the large windows that flood the space with light and frame views of the backyard and Puget Sound. To make the view part of the room’s atmosphere, we moved the main seating away from the fireplace and positioned it more toward the center, allowing the windows to become a focal point.

The room isn’t large or small—just right. Centering the smaller-scale sofas gives the space room to breathe and keeps it feeling inviting, cozy, and comfortable.
For now, we placed a small linen wingback settee facing the windows and arranged the leather sofa to face the fireplace. This layout balances two focal points: the view and the hearth. A chair angled toward the windows and the new daybed complete the conversation area, creating a flexible, layered arrangement.
We plan to hang bamboo blinds above the windows to add texture without blocking the view when raised. The blinds will bring a finished look and definition to the window area.

I love that the daybed sits close enough to the main seating to feel part of the group, yet slightly outside the conversation circle so someone can nap or relax while others chat. In winter it will be the coziest spot beside the fireplace.

We wanted a daybed that read more like casual seating than a formal bed. It needed to be light and airy so it wouldn’t create a visual barrier, yet solid enough to anchor the corner. When we found this rattan daybed, it felt like the perfect fit. The natural texture complements the house’s architecture and blends seamlessly with our existing pieces—open and breezy, but sturdy.

We waited anxiously until delivery, with a backup plan to place it downstairs if it didn’t work. Fortunately, it was exactly as we hoped and settled beautifully into the living room.

The brass and glass tables from our previous family room fit perfectly beside the fireplace and now serve as plant stands. Houseplants bring life to the space, and these will happily soak up the sunlight from the windows.

I moved the fiddleleaf fig to the other side of the fireplace for the summer; it seems just as content there.

To make the daybed extra inviting, we used large Euro shams and some pillows we already owned, adding a few new throws for softness and color. The result is both stylish and comfortable—an appealing corner to relax in.

Unsurprisingly, Jack and Lily immediately claimed the daybed. We keep extra sheets and pillowcases handy to make cleaning simple, and the pups love watching birds from their favorite spot. It’s safe to say we do, too.

We’re planning to paint the room soon and will share more updated views once that’s done. We’ve ordered bamboo shades and are excited to see how they complete the space. There are always more layers to add over time—stay tuned for more details and updates.
