DIY Peacock Feather Wreath
To dress up my porch for fall, I decided a wreath on the front door would be perfect. Wanting to be thrifty, I checked what I already had and remembered the moss wreath I used on my mantel in spring. The size was just right for the door — not oversized so we wouldn’t bang into it — and I liked the unique square shape. It only needed a little extra something to feel seasonal.
I pictured something pretty with a hint of spooky and a whimsical edge — exactly the kind of vibe that works for fall. What came to mind were peacock feathers: elegant, colorful, and a bit haunting, as if small watchful eyes were perched on the door. It felt like a subtle nod to Halloween without being over the top.
I didn’t forage for feathers in the woods; instead I picked up peacock feathers at a craft store, which was faster and cleaner. To keep the project simple, I set the feathers directly on the existing moss wreath and secured them with floral arranging pins. That was it — no complicated steps, no glue guns or extra fuss.
In just a few minutes I had a finished wreath: pretty, slightly spooky, and whimsically seasonal. It hangs on the front door now, welcoming fall with a touch of elegance and a playful edge. The whole update was quick, inexpensive, and effective — the kind of easy makeover that feels satisfying.
If you’re thinking of making a fall wreath, peacock feathers are an easy way to add color and character. Use a wreath you already own, tuck the feathers into the base, and pin them in place. Adjust the angle and spacing until you like the effect. You can layer the feathers for fullness or keep a sparse look for a more understated style.
Have you added feathers or created any new wreaths for fall this year?
