Fiddle Leaf Fig Care: How to Help Your Plant Thrive

Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree in the Entry - The Inspired Room

Do you remember the unfortunate tale of my last fiddle leaf fig? Apparently I enjoy taking plant risks, because we’ve welcomed a new fiddle leaf fig into the family. This cheerful specimen came from Ikea.

Fiddle leaf figs are known for being somewhat finicky, but so far this one is doing well.

For the past few months he’s been settled in a slightly sheltered corner of our front porch where the light is bright, and he’s really thrived. Now that I’ve moved him indoors to the entry, I’m curious how he’ll adapt—these plants don’t always appreciate being relocated.

The entry benefits from good natural light thanks to windows and a skylight, but fiddle leaf figs prefer bright, indirect sunlight. Moving them can be stressful, so I’m watching closely to see how he responds.

Care tips I’ve picked up include keeping them in bright, indirect light and occasionally wiping dust from their leaves so they can photosynthesize well. Despite that, I’m no expert—my previous tree didn’t make it—so I’m learning as I go.

Do you have a fiddle leaf fig? What are some of your favorite indoor plants?
