This small bedroom makeover was completed in partnership with Ashley HomeStore
Welcome to our small bedroom makeover. I’m excited to finally share this compact main-floor bedroom with you and show both the before and after photos.
I originally considered using this little room as an office, but after trying it out for a few months I realized it felt too tight and didn’t make a comfortable workspace. Since we were already moving the office downstairs, Ashley HomeStore reached out to collaborate on a room makeover. An empty room was the perfect opportunity to create a welcoming guest space we desperately needed.

Before this project I hadn’t stopped into Ashley HomeStore, so it was a pleasant surprise to discover their selection. Their furniture and accents provided ideal pieces for this small bedroom, and I was happy to incorporate several items from their collection to finish the space.

This is the before photo. Although the room is small, it already had a few advantages: attractive baseboard molding, hardwood floors and a bright, cheerful window.

The main challenge was size. I wanted a queen bed for guests but worried it wouldn’t fit. After careful measuring and choosing appropriately scaled furniture, we were able to include a queen bed and small nightstands without making the room feel cramped.

The upholstered dark gray bed with nailhead trim makes a refined statement. I liked that the frame is fully cushioned and the footboard is low, which keeps sightlines open in a tiny room. The scale felt just right.
My parents have already stayed in the guest room and loved it. The mattress and layered bedding sets created a comfortable and inviting space. Offering multiple bedding options looks good and gives guests choices for warmth and comfort.

The glass-and-gold nesting tables are airy and perfectly scaled for the space. Small apothecary-style lamps provide cozy bedside lighting for reading. Choosing compact, lightweight pieces kept the room feeling open and functional.
With such a small room, mirrors were essential to reflect light and help guests get ready. We picked two mirrors that add texture and style while expanding the visual space.

A full-length mirror introduces a weathered, textural element and is indispensable for checking outfits. It’s practical and attractive in this compact room.

The gold mirror with an arched top is one of my favorite pieces. The antiqued finish adds warmth and a gentle curve that softens the space.

Quality throw pillows elevated the bedding scheme—pattern and texture bring personality without overwhelming the room.

We added a green wall clock for a touch of color. While most travelers bring phones, a decorative clock is both practical and charming on the wall.

The heavy gold tray is a favorite accent—stylish and sturdy, it makes a welcoming bedside vignette for fresh flowers or a small morning coffee gift for arriving guests.

This is the closet before. Because the room is so small we decided to leave the closet open, creating a simple nook that feels like part of the room rather than a closed-off area.

Now the area is a convenient spot for guests to set a suitcase and hang a few garments without crowding the sleep space.

A compact accent cabinet fits neatly in the nook. It’s sturdy and provides storage for extra blankets and personal items for guests staying a bit longer.

Throw blankets with tassel trim add a playful finishing touch to the bedding. A jute rug brings warmth and helps soften sound in the room, making the space cozier.
Before and After Small Bedroom Makeover
Here’s the final before-and-after view. I love how the space came together—balanced, welcoming and easy to refresh seasonally for guests.

Beyond welcoming guests, the room has become a quiet retreat for me. With many projects underway in other parts of the house, I find myself escaping here to relax and enjoy a finished space.
Thanks for stopping by to see the small bedroom makeover. I’ll share more updates from the house soon—stay tuned.
