I receive many remodeling questions from readers, so I wanted to share practical tips to help you redesign a kitchen with confidence.
1) Take your time.
Look for inspiration in photos and showrooms, but avoid rushing into major decisions on impulse. Some ideas are easy to change, while others—like a bold paint color or a permanent layout change—can be harder to reverse. Give yourself time to consider how a choice will function day to day before committing.
2) Decide wisely.
Online advice can be helpful, but don’t let trending opinions override your common sense or personal needs. Styles shift over time, so research finishes, materials, and layouts that will stand up to your lifestyle. Thoughtful choices now will save you from frequent updates later, yet you also don’t need to feel locked into every decision forever.
3) Dark kitchens get dirty, too.
Every kitchen shows wear and mess regardless of color. Dark cabinetry and countertops hide certain marks but can highlight dust or fingerprints, while lighter surfaces may reveal stains but look brighter overall. Consider the materials, finishes, and maintenance routines that fit your household rather than assuming one color is objectively easier to keep clean.
4) Choose what you love.
Mix practical ideas that suit your home with design elements that appeal to you personally. A kitchen should be both functional and a space you enjoy spending time in, so prioritize features that meet your needs and reflect your taste.
