Stylish Kitchen Storage: Rattan Lidded Baskets for Organization

This year I’m focused on finding a place for everything and putting things back where they belong. I recently added a few new baskets to the kitchen and wanted to share how they’re helping me keep surfaces tidy while adding cozy texture and interest.

My goal with these baskets is twofold: make the shelves and counters look pretty with natural texture, and solve small organizational problems with a simple, attractive solution.

I’m not trying to hide stuff we don’t need. Instead, I’m using baskets to corral things we actually use but that tend to get left out. For example, a small oval lidded basket now stores our dog Lily’s supplements so they no longer pile up on the counter.

I also added three round lidded baskets for the island shelves, and I absolutely love them. Most of my baskets are rectangular, so these round shapes bring variety and make the display feel special.

The round baskets are stackable: two smaller ones for one shelf and one larger basket for another. The large basket is roomy enough to hold dinner plates we only use occasionally, which combines function with a neat, styled look.

Each of the smaller baskets has a dedicated purpose so I don’t forget what’s inside. I can always change what I store later, but for now they’re working well:

Picture-hanging basket: One round basket holds the small supplies I use when hanging plates or frames—sticky tack, a measuring tape, hooks and nails. I’ll also add plate hangers, a small level, and a compact hammer. Keeping these items together makes quick decorating tasks easier and prevents repeated trips to the toolbox.

Small tools basket: The other small basket serves as an “extra junk drawer” spot. It contains handy tools we often use in the kitchen and a couple of extension cords we bring out when guests need to plug in small appliances like a mixer or crock pot. Having these essentials nearby saves me from running out to the garage to dig around.

Our island has one slim drawer that tends to become a catchall. By moving some necessities into baskets, we free up space in that drawer for items like paper and pens and reduce clutter overall.

If you’re interested in styling and organizing with less visual clutter, I’m also running a Room Recipe Workshop this season where we’ll cover these topics and more. It’s a helpful way to learn practical strategies for keeping spaces both beautiful and functional.
