Welcome, welcome!
Come in, everyone. I’m delighted to be a special guest on this Farmhouse Holiday Fall Dining Room tour. The invitation was perfect timing to motivate me to style my dining room for fall. I love this season of nesting and change (I recently began my annual fall nesting series).
So, come on in, friends! There’s room for everyone to gather around the table. Our space is cozy and a bit small, but that makes it feel inviting and intimate.

I tend to keep seasonal decorating simple. It’s not because I don’t enjoy a fully festive table — I absolutely do — but simplicity fits our lifestyle. It allows me to change things often and enjoy the process of tweaking each space as the season unfolds.

If you follow along here, you know I began my fall transition in the kitchen with a new rug. Our remodeled kitchen is new to us this fall, and I was eager to introduce autumnal touches that would flow naturally into the adjacent dining room.

The kitchen and dining room connect visually through an archway, so it made sense to create a cohesive “fall vibe” across both spaces. As the kitchen took on autumn accents, ideas for the dining room followed.

Layering a cozy look in the dining room can start with something as simple as a tablecloth, which is precisely what I added. A little change goes a long way.

I picked up a woven pumpkin at HomeGoods a few weeks ago — a small, thrilled purchase that felt ahead of the season. Real pumpkins aren’t widely available near me yet, so this woven pumpkin was a practical and lasting choice. It won’t rot and can be used throughout the season, which feels both thrifty and cheerful.

Apart from the pumpkin and tablecloth, I set the table with items I already own. I often challenge myself to a ten-minute decorating limit when I “shop my house.” It’s a fun motivator to mix and match quickly, and most of the time I’m happy with the results once the timer stops.
Small updates are often enough to put me in a fall mood.

For the place settings, I used the same blue-and-white dishes I sometimes use in spring and added plum napkins to bring in autumn color. Wood chargers warmed the setting and paired nicely with my new pumpkin centerpiece.

When I added gold flatware it felt a touch disconnected, so I placed a small brass tray under the pumpkin. That little base made the pumpkin feel more deliberate and lifted it into a simple, elegant centerpiece.

To add warmth around the room, I styled brass lanterns on the buffet. A couple of perennials in a basket added seasonal color and a natural touch.

I added cozy textures with fuzzy sweater pillows on the banquette, a couple of velvet pillows, and a knitted throw draped over a chair. Layering varied textures is my favorite way to evoke a fall feeling.

And if you look closely, you’ll spot a surprise guest photobombing a shot — a cozy, furry addition we’ll happily keep around.

We have a photo bomber.
He adds to the warm, lived-in feeling of the room, so he’s staying.

Keeping gatherings simple is the theme of my new book, Simple Gatherings, releasing October 3rd. It shares approachable ideas for hospitality and entertaining with ease.
