II love the look of full walls of windows and doors. Natural light lifts the mood and an unobstructed view can turn an ordinary room into a calming indoor-outdoor retreat. Large expanses of glass create a sense of openness and connection to the outdoors that feels especially valuable when we spend a lot of time at home.

We’re fortunate that the previous owner of our house installed high-quality Milgard vinyl replacement windows. That feature was one of the reasons we fell in love with this home. These windows are energy efficient, durable and easy to operate—qualities that make daily life more comfortable. In contrast, many older homes have drafty, inoperable windows that can make rooms uncomfortable throughout the year.

Replacing windows not only boosts curb appeal but also elevates the interior ambiance. New windows are a smart home investment that improves resale value, but they also enhance daily life—bringing more light, better views, and improved comfort. For me, windows feel like an everyday investment in well-being.
Lately I’ve been dreaming about adding a wall of windows that would open to our side patio. I watched a kitchen remodel featuring a moving glass wall system and it sparked a lot of creative ideas about how to expand light and sightlines throughout the house.
It has me thinking about additional windows and doors we could add—maybe doors between the bedroom and living room to capture light and views, larger bedroom windows, or more patio doors to bring the outdoors in. Small layout changes combined with well-placed glazing can dramatically change how a space feels.
Some of my favorite window trends right now are:
- Oversized walls of windows or expansive patio doors
- Black or dark window frames for a modern, striking look
- Bay windows that create cozy built-in seating or display areas
- Transom windows that add light without sacrificing privacy

If you’re considering new windows, many Milgard dealers now offer virtual consultations. These appointments allow dealers to advise on styles and measurements while maintaining safety and social distancing. Dealers can measure for new windows and doors in person when appropriate, or guide homeowners through measuring so they can receive an accurate quote without an initial in-home visit.
Virtual consultations work well with promotions that let homeowners order now and schedule installation later. That flexibility can be helpful if you want to plan upgrades but prefer to wait to install until the timing is right.
