Before Jack the Goldendoodle, there was another fluffy white dog named Winston, a sweet little Westie.

We brought Winston home as a puppy 18 years ago from a nearby farm, and he quickly became part of our family.

We shared many adventures, but Winston’s absolute favorite spot was the beach. He could spend hours exploring the shore and chasing waves.

All of our children grew up with Winston by their side. He loved attending their basketball games and track meets and simply being with his people.

If you followed the blog in the early days, you might remember Winston popping into photos—he was the original blog dog around The Inspired Room and often made surprise appearances.

Even as he grew older, Winston never lost his love for the outdoors and the little adventures that made life joyful for him and for us.

A year and a half ago we welcomed Jack the Goldendoodle into the family. Jack recognized that Winston was special, though he often wished Winston would join in play.

In Winston’s final days, Jack stayed close, watching over him with gentle, attentive presence while Winston rested.

On Saturday morning, after 18 wonderful years as a beloved family member, Winston passed away peacefully.

Saying goodbye was heartbreaking. Winston was deeply loved and brought warmth and comfort to our home for nearly two decades.

We will miss him every day, remembering his gentle loyalty, his love of the beach, and the many moments he shared with our family.
