What an eventful week! We’ve been busy around the house and I’m excited to share what we’ve been up to. Last weekend I co-hosted a Home Depot lighting workshop. I brought my DIY barrel lamp and my daughters, mingled with attendees, talked a bit about the lamp, and learned a lot from the experts.
I really enjoy Home Depot workshops — if you haven’t attended one, I recommend it. They’re a great way to learn practical skills and pick up useful tips for your home. This workshop focused on lighting: choosing the right bulbs, improving energy efficiency, and options for dimmer switches. We actually bought dimmer switches for our whole house when we moved in, but haven’t installed them yet. I love soft lighting and the right dimmer can completely change the mood of a room.

These days the lightbulb aisle can be overwhelming — so many choices that it’s easy to feel paralyzed. Before the workshop I often picked the cheapest incandescent option, but I learned that LEDs are far more economical over time. They use less energy and last much longer, making them a smart choice for fixtures that are hard to reach, like high chandeliers or ceiling lights.
We also saw a helpful demonstration comparing the light produced by different bulbs. The difference between warm white and daylight bulbs is dramatic. I prefer warm light for living spaces because it feels cozy, while daylight bulbs are excellent in garages or workspaces where bright, clear light helps with projects and finding items in corners.
Next time you need bulbs, ask the store staff for guidance — they’re knowledgeable and can help you choose the best option for long-term savings and the right light for each room.
My DIY barrel lamp definitely drew attention at the event — it was the star of the show. After the workshop I walked around the store with it and people kept turning their heads. It was fun enough that I joked about starting a lamp-making business if blogging doesn’t pan out.

I always enjoy hosting workshops because it’s a chance to connect with readers and other DIY enthusiasts. If you see me at a future event, please stop by and say hello — it’s always a highlight to meet people in person.

After a final silly selfie with our DIY lamp — because DIY moments deserve celebration — we headed out for coffee and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine we’ve been having in Seattle.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
