Welcome back to The Snug — our multifunctional room that serves as my office, a family room, a guest room and, in the future, a playroom for the grand littles. For the first two years after we moved in, this room doubled as temporary storage during renovations, and for much of the past year it was a holding space while we updated the kitchen. That’s why I haven’t shared much of it recently — there simply wasn’t a finished space to show.
It’s so nice to have the room set up and usable again. We love the view; watching the ferries go by outside the window never gets old.
You can watch a short video of this space below!

We installed the same new floors here as throughout the house: engineered European white oak. The updated flooring transformed the room and brightened the whole home. While we’ll eventually add paint or wallpaper, wall sconces, and blinds, for now we focused on arranging furniture and finishing touches.

Today I’m sharing the progress on this side of the room. Most pieces were already on hand, so the update was largely about repositioning furniture. We did make a few swaps — and one less couch now that the leather loveseat moved downstairs — but the changes are mostly about function and flow.

One new addition is a durable indoor/outdoor rug from the Amber Lewis × Loloi collection that launched today. It’s attractive and hard-wearing, ideal for a busy, multipurpose room. I shared more about it in my Instagram stories if you want a closer look.

The rattan twin bed was moved to this side of the room and I love it here. I’ve considered adding a matching twin for symmetry and may do that later. The bedding has been collected over several years and feels layered and collected.

A small wooden stool is one of my favorite, most useful pieces— it gets moved around the house constantly. A simple wood stool functions as a nightstand, end table or catchall, and is worth keeping in rotation. I also use a wicker trunk for blanket storage.

The French desk has been in our home for years and now doubles as a workspace and a puzzle table — a spot the family enjoys daily. New white rattan chairs make flexible seating that’s easy to move where needed.

On one shelf I’ve grouped copies of the books I’ve written. I keep them handy for gifts and giveaways, and seeing them together is inspiring. We still have more books that need shelves, so I expect I’ll rearrange things again as the room evolves.
I’ll share the other side of the room soon. Little by little the house is coming together and it’s a joy to put these spaces back into everyday use.
