I had been searching for the right table for this spot for some time and was excited when a vintage marble-top washstand appeared on Facebook Marketplace. I wanted a secondhand piece that would provide a surface for a lamp while keeping the floor vent beneath it clear, so an open base was essential.
This charming washstand felt like the perfect fit. The marble top echoes the stone in our kitchen and complements the warm leather and wood tones found in our bamboo window blinds, dining table, and chairs. It also offers a couple of small drawers that are useful for stashing little items.

The washstand is missing the typical backsplash piece that often sits behind the marble on these antique designs, but that didn’t bother me—the height fits nicely under our window and it reads well in the room.
If you’re hunting for something similar, check Facebook Marketplace, eBay, estate sales, or local secondhand shops. Vintage washstands and small occasional tables pop up often if you keep an eye out.
There’s a beautiful example listed as an Antique French Washstand from the 1890s on Chairish that shows the same elegance as this one.

I photographed the space over a couple of days, since I’m always tinkering with vignettes. If you look closely, you can spot small shifts in styling from one image to the next—nothing stays put for long! A bit of moving things around helps me find the best balance.

One discreet adjustment I made was sliding a dark blue basket under the washstand to partially conceal an outlet and cords. If visible cords bother you, try placing a low-profile object—like a basket, tray, plant, or vase—to hide them without drawing attention away from the table.

I experimented with various accessories on the narrow lower shelf before settling on the dark basket. Many items felt too bulky or visually fussy in that tight space, so I chose something understated that provides a little storage without competing with the room’s overall look. I’ll keep an eye out for a perfect alternative over time, but for now the basket is a quiet solution.
