S I’m deep in full-on fall nesting mode — the feeling that comes when the season changes and you want your home to feel extra cozy and ready for cooler evenings. I started a cleaning binge this weekend, which quickly turned into rearranging furniture and then into bringing home a new, extremely cozy teal blue velvet tufted ottoman. Maybe you know the feeling: you set out to tidy up and next thing you know you’re shopping for a new accent piece.
Is it just me, or does that happen to you too?

I’d been using a coffee table for years and liked it, but after rearranging the room I realized an ottoman would suit the space better. I found this one at World Market for $199.00 — the price was right and the color felt perfect. My daughter needed a coffee table, so I passed mine along and made room for the ottoman.

The photos I took show the color more accurately than the product listing image, but both capture the richness of the teal velvet. The fabric has a plush, inviting feel that instantly made the family room cozier.
If you follow me on Instagram you may have already seen a sneak peek during the rearrange. The family room is a relaxed space where my daughters and I sit by the fire; it’s also where guests often gather when they visit. We don’t eat in this room, which helps keep the ottoman looking fresh. Our dogs, Jack and Lily, will still have their favorite old, indestructible leather ottoman near the window for lounging and watching the neighborhood activity.
On the ottoman I’ve placed a woven basket tray and a gold leaf-shaped tray I found from a Nate Berkus collection at Target. These are just pieces I picked up and not sponsored items — I’m sharing them because they fit the look and function I wanted.
I’ll be sharing more about the full room arrangement and my fall nesting ideas soon. In the meantime, has anyone else started with a simple cleaning task only to end up redecorating? I’d love to hear if you’ve been sidetracked into finding the perfect new accessory for your home.
