Spring Flowers for the Front Porch
This Saturday I’m hosting a garden party at the Home Depot! If you are in the Seattle area, I hope you’ll come by and say hi. I’ll be there along with Chef Amy Pennington and garden expert Teena Spindler, and hopefully my girls and maybe Bella the pup, too. It should be a lot of fun. I’ll share more event details later in the post, but first I wanted to show a little of my front porch—the only part I’ve worked on since winter.
One of the things we really loved about our house was the front porch. It has plenty of space for accessories and planter boxes, and I enjoy adding seasonal plants near the door. While I was at Home Depot picking up whiskey barrels for my backyard garden, I grabbed a few plants for the porch as well. The pink hydrangeas are gorgeous—hydrangeas are among my favorite flowers. At a previous home we had an enormous blue hydrangea that bloomed so heavily neighbors would stop by to ask for a cutting. I hope to grow plants that full here someday.
I also found an amazingly fragrant orange tree. I want to hold it to my nose to enjoy the scent all day, but for now I’ve placed it by the front door. I may move it to the backyard for the summer, but for the moment it sits on my little teak tea cart.
Random side note: One of my favorite sensations at Disney’s California Adventure was the ride over the orange groves—the scent always felt so fresh and fragrant to me.

I also brought home a sweet lavender topiary. The scent and form add a calm, classic touch to the porch.
One of my happiest places is a garden store. I’m overwhelmed by the lumber section, but I could spend hours in the garden aisles discovering new plants and pots.
Do you enjoy browsing the garden section as much as I do? I can’t wait for summer.
Ready to get your hands dirty?
Come hang out with me!
Join me at the Issaquah Home Depot this Saturday (6200 E Lake Sammamish Pkwy NE, Issaquah, WA 98029), May 17 from 1–4 PM, for the Seattle Garden Party. There will be garden-themed activities and garden-to-table fare with exclusive recipes from Chef Amy Pennington. If you have gardening questions, expert gardener Teena Spindler will guide an herb container garden project and answer questions. It’s going to be a fun, hands-on afternoon. Hope to see some of you there. #SpringMadeSimple
