Spring mantel decor
I enjoy wandering through my home looking for simple ways to refresh the mantel to suit the season or my mood. My Valentine’s mantel was still charming except for the hearts and Xs and Os, which were fun for the holiday but felt ready to be replaced. With cloudy, cool days lingering, I find myself in that “in-between” decorating mindset — not quite ready for full spring, but wanting a gentle nudge toward warmer, sunnier days.
Anticipating the season lifts my spirits, so I start adding small touches that suggest spring is on its way. It’s a comforting ritual: arranging a few things, imagining brighter days, and letting the mantel evolve with my mood.
Flowers and plants are obvious spring choices for the mantel, and near Easter you can bring in bunnies or eggs. Sometimes I update the mantel several times in a season — I like to let the display shift as my tastes and moods change.
This week I’m craving a sense of adventure while staying cozy at home. Not quite Easter-ready, but dreaming of spring and travel.
Books are a year-round favorite of mine. I love sitting by the fireplace with a hot drink and flipping through home decor books, daydreaming and collecting ideas. Stacks of books make me happy — they’re colorful, versatile, and easy to rearrange to match the in-between feeling of early spring.
Beyond being pretty, books are practical. I prefer decor that serves a purpose rather than items that exist only as clutter. If a piece brings you joy even without a practical use, that’s fine — but I get the most satisfaction from surroundings I can actually use and appreciate.
This time of year I often feel the urge to travel — the south of France, Venice, or even Australia. Since a trip isn’t always possible, small objets like a globe or a sailboat model help me daydream about faraway places and adventures.
Globes and nautical pieces suggest exploration and a life open to experiences beyond the walls of home. They’re perfect for a mantel that hints at travel and curiosity.
I grew up around sailing and have fond memories of time on the water — wind in my hair, sun on my face, and the fresh scent of the sea. That feeling of freedom and gentle energy inspires how I style my mantel in this transitional season: cozy enough to nest with a good book, yet open to the idea of new adventures.
For now I’ll enjoy the small comforts and the inspiration that comes from books, globes, and the simple promise of spring. I’ll be sharing more spring ideas soon.
Are you starting to prepare for spring? What’s inspiring you this week?
