This small bedroom makeover was completed in partnership with Ashley HomeStore
Welcome to our small bedroom makeover. I’m excited to share, for the first time, the before-and-after photos of this cozy main-floor bedroom.
I originally considered using this room as an office, but after working in it for a few months I realized it felt too small and cramped to be comfortable for daily work. That led me to repurpose it as a guest room, which solved a need in our home. I’ll share more about the new office in a future post.

As we began moving the office furniture downstairs, Ashley HomeStore reached out about collaborating on a room makeover. They asked me to create a before-and-after of a newly furnished space. Since this bedroom was empty, it was the perfect fit for the project. I was thrilled to turn an unused room into a comfortable guest retreat.

Although I’d seen Ashley HomeStore around town, I hadn’t stopped in before. I’m glad I did — they offer some lovely pieces that worked perfectly for this small bedroom makeover.

This is the before photo. Even though the room is tiny, it already had three strong features: solid baseboard moldings, hardwood floors and a bright, cheerful window.

The challenge was the size. I wanted a queen bed for guests but was concerned about fitting it. After careful measuring and selecting compact pieces, I managed to include a queen bed and small nightstands without making the room feel overcrowded.

The upholstered dark gray bed with nailhead trim makes a confident statement. I chose a design with a cushioned frame but without a tall footboard so the small room wouldn’t feel cramped.
My parents have already stayed in the room and loved it. The mattress from Ashley HomeStore proved comfortable, and the layered quilts and bedding sets are soft and inviting. Layering bedding not only looks stylish but also gives guests options for comfort.

The delicate glass-and-gold nesting tables are airy in scale and fit nicely beside the bed. Compact apothecary lamps provide bedside lighting that’s perfect for reading.
In a small room, mirrors are especially useful to reflect light and help guests get ready. We chose two mirrors that add both function and style.

A full-length mirror introduces a weathered, textural element and makes it easy to check an outfit from head to toe.

The gold mirror with an arched top adds a soft curve and an antiqued finish that complements the room’s palette.

The throw pillows are high quality and bring pattern and warmth to the bed.

The green wall clock is both practical and charming. While most guests travel with phones, the clock is a nice decorative and functional touch on the wall.

The heavy gold tray is one of my favorite accents. It adds a bit of glamour and is useful for presenting a small welcome bouquet or a souvenir coffee mug for guests.

Here’s the before photo of the closet area. To keep the room feeling open, we decided to leave the closet nook open without doors so it reads as part of the space rather than a closed-off section.

Now it’s a functional spot where guests can set a suitcase and hang a few clothes.

The small cabinet fits neatly into the nook, offering storage for extra blankets and a place for guests to tuck away belongings during an extended stay.

Throw blankets with tassel trim are a playful finishing touch on the bedding, and a jute rug adds warmth and helps soften the room acoustically.
Before and After Small Bedroom Makeover
After furnishing and styling the space, the transformation feels complete. I love having a finished room that also allows for seasonal updates and personal touches for guests.

I also discovered this room is the perfect quiet escape for me amid the busyness of other projects in the house. I often prop myself up on the bed to relax and appreciate a finished space.
Thanks for stopping by to see the small bedroom makeover. I’ll have more home updates coming soon—stay tuned.
