We’re heading into summer here on the coast, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve always loved autumn, but over the years summer has climbed to near the top of my list for its own reasons. Our coastal Washington summers are ideal for me: warm sunshine, a cool breeze off the water, and weather that feels neither too hot nor too cold. It’s the kind of climate that invites you outside to breathe and enjoy the day.

This summer will pass quickly. It won’t be only lazy beach days with a wide-brimmed hat—there’s a new granddaughter on the way, a business to run, and a home to care for. These responsibilities are privileges I’m grateful for. Life today is different from when my children were small, but it still keeps me on my toes in new and meaningful ways.
As much as I’d enjoy some days spent simply watching the water with a drink in hand, I can’t imagine living that way all the time. What I do crave, especially when life is busy, are the simple pleasures: quiet moments, small rituals, and time to breathe. I suspect you value those things too.

I’ve learned that I’m the sort of person who will often feel busy—sometimes by choice, sometimes not. Even when I’m not physically active, my mind tends to run, and I can easily feel overwhelmed by responsibility. As a creative and an introvert, I crave slower, quieter stretches to recharge and reflect.
Because I recognize this tendency in myself, I made a conscious decision years ago to shape a life of intention and balance. Seasonally grounded rhythms became my tool. From the time my children were small, I began carving out intentional practices for each season—small pauses to be alone, to slow down, and to notice the ordinary. Those rhythms helped me be a more present parent and a calmer person.
A seasonal rhythm gives me permission to focus on what matters and to savor the particular gifts each time of year brings. It’s not about rigid schedules; it’s about creating a gentle framework that supports productivity and peace simultaneously.

Practicing a rhythm has been valuable in every season. Each season offers a unique pace and set of pleasures. In summer, I lean into a slow, savored rhythm—simple rituals that help me enjoy warm mornings, long evenings, and the small daily pleasures that make the season feel full and meaningful.
That rhythm is how I manage responsibilities and still experience the season in the ways I value most. It keeps me inspired, focused, and more at ease in my home and life.

On June 10th I’ll be sharing the seasonal rhythm I use to begin every new season—this simple practice has made a big difference in my sense of calm and productivity at home.
I’ll outline practical ways to bring this seasonal approach into your life and provide a printable HomeBody notebook to help you organize and focus on a summer rhythm that suits your needs.
Over the 12 weeks of summer, this community will embrace a simple, unhurried rhythm. Each week I’ll highlight a small pleasure from my own summer routine to inspire you to slow down, savor, and be present with the season.
My hope is that these practices will encourage you to take a deep breath and enjoy whatever season you’re in, with more intention and peace.
Join us to begin the season together on June 10th.
