Pottery Barn
Greetings. I’m finally recovering after a long bout with the flu that left me drained and unmotivated. I’ve never been sick for so many days in a row — it was rough. For a while I wondered if I’d ever get back to blogging, but I’m pleased to say I’m back and feeling better.
I’ll confess something a little embarrassing: until very recently I still had most of my Christmas decorations up. Yes, mid-January. I didn’t even have the energy to take them down. When I’m that sick, all I want to do is nap — and that’s not usually me. Those days are behind me now, though, and I’m finally tackling the holiday clutter.

Pottery Barn Dresser
Feeling better has given me energy to think about my home goals for the year. Recently I started planning a craft closet in our guest room, which led me to consider the rest of the house. Aside from the pantry, I’m not thrilled with most of our closets and dressers. Some spots are working well — like my new pegboard tool area — but many spaces need an overhaul.

Pottery Barn Organization
I want to create smarter, more attractive storage in every room. My aim is to maximize the space we have. Although the house is a comfortable size overall, individual rooms tend to be small and there are no built-ins. We have only one small closet on the main floor and bedroom closets aren’t being used to their full potential. Many could use a style update so they’re both prettier and more functional. My little dream is being able to photograph organized closets someday.
How a room looks and functions really affects me. When a space has been thoughtfully organized from top to bottom, I’m motivated to keep it that way. If everything has a place and the room feels pretty, it helps me stay relaxed and maintain order. To me, an organized home is a more peaceful, beautiful home.
This year I’ll go room by room, assessing how each space functions and where storage can be improved. In some places I’ll add new furniture like dressers, shelving units, or consoles; in others I’ll creatively makeover existing storage. I’m picturing wall organizers, hooks, and practical solutions that also look good.

Organized Craft Space
Some rooms will require more creativity, especially spaces with no current storage like our dining room. Built-ins would be ideal in a few places, but that might not fit the budget. In other cases I’ll empty closets and start fresh with better systems. My intention is not only to beautify each room but to reduce excess and be more organized by year’s end. I probably won’t finish the entire house, and not every corner will be perfect, but I can make meaningful progress by starting now.
I hope you’ll follow along and maybe feel inspired to do some organizing in your own home. I’m a bit nervous sharing this because now I feel accountable — in a good way. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I’m ready to make it happen.
First things first: putting those Christmas decorations away.
