Organize Your Home for Fall Hobbies: Storage & Setup Tips

Getting organized: crafts and hobbies

Sponsored by Brother

In my organizing book, Make Room for What You Love, I emphasize how essential it is to organize your hobbies if you actually want to do them. That advice is especially true for me, so this past week I followed my own guidance and organized my craft supplies. I’m excited to show how labeling made everything easier and more inviting.

Labeling crafts for organization

Keeping my home orderly affects my quality of life in many ways. When I have to crawl around in a cluttered closet or rummage through the garage to find supplies, I quickly lose interest in the project. If I want to relax and enjoy a creative hobby, the materials need to be ready and accessible when I am.

Disorganization can turn things we want to love into clutter that discourages us from creating.

I’m not a skilled DIY expert, but I do enjoy making things. Low-pressure, creative projects are therapeutic and help slow life’s pace. A year ago my sister, my daughters, and I visited a local apothecary and came home with supplies for making candles, lotions, bath salts, and soaps. We had a wonderful time crafting together, but afterward the leftover materials ended up tossed into the brown bag we brought them in and then forgotten in the back of a closet.

Although I’ve thought about hosting another DIY day, I knew I needed to organize those supplies first.

That’s when I used the Brother P-touch PT-D210 label maker—the same tool I relied on for organizing my spice drawer. It’s a reliable way to label practically anything. With the labeler, organizing the apothecary supplies was quick and simple, and it made the whole collection much more appealing and usable.

Look at the difference: neatly labeled jars and containers make the supplies inviting. I’m much more likely to use them now that everything has a place and a clear label.

Organizing craft supplies doesn’t have to be difficult—it can be an enjoyable project on its own. Start by gathering just the materials for one hobby. You don’t need to tackle an entire craft room at once; that can feel overwhelming. Choose a single shelf or drawer to organize first, then expand as you feel ready.

I printed clear labels with a simple border and an attractive font for my jars. The shelf now looks fresh and tidy, and best of all, the supplies are ready to use. The P-touch PT-D210 lets you personalize labels with different color tapes, 14 fonts, 97 frames, and more than 600 symbols. I’m looking forward to experimenting with color tapes and frames on future organizing projects.

What organizing project could you tackle this season that would inspire you to spend more time doing what you love?
