Make a Sparkling Snow Candle: DIY Glitter Candle Tutorial

DIY glittery snow candle

Over a decade ago I shared a simple craft for making faux snow for mason jars and using it to create glittery candles. I had been making these jars long before I ever blogged about them, and when the post went live it resonated with people—long before platforms like Pinterest made sharing so easy. Since then the idea has been recreated many times, and I still find the result charming. I continue to use these jars and candles as part of my seasonal decor.

These mason jars are sweet year-round and can be adapted for different seasons and styles. The original post includes step-by-step photos and notes about both the jars and the candles.

One variation I mentioned back then was rolling a candle in the faux snow to create a frosted, sparkly finish. It took me a while to try it myself, but recently I finally made one and it turned out beautifully.

The technique is incredibly simple: brush the candle with Mod Podge (or a similar craft adhesive), then roll or press Epsom salt into the adhesive to mimic snow crystals. The texture and subtle sparkle give the candle a wintry, handcrafted look.

This is an easy, inexpensive project that’s fun to make, great for gifting, and perfect for adding cozy, glittery accents to a mantel, centerpiece, or shelf.
