The perks of downsizing keep revealing themselves—most recently while we were shopping for curtains and blinds. The contrast between furnishing this home and our previous ones felt dramatic, and it highlighted some delightful freedoms that come with a smaller footprint. We also explored how past pandemics influenced home design, explaining the origins of things like powder rooms, bright white kitchens, and higher bed frames. Plus: our thoughts on the new Frame TV and whether your birthday can actually guide your plant choices.

What’s New
- We installed new bedroom curtains: the Emery Linen curtains in Ivory with Blackout lining, 84″ length. They’re from Pottery Barn and currently on sale. They still need steaming, but compared to the old packing blankets they’re a huge upgrade.

- We paired them with brass curtain rods and matching rings for a cohesive look.
- We still love the Ikea Lenda curtains we used in our last house—affordable and versatile—but for this room we wanted a slightly warmer ivory and blackout capability. We’ve shared tips before on how to make budget curtains look more refined.
Updates
- We included a Cheddar video that outlines how past pandemics and hygiene concerns have shaped modern home design.
- We discussed expert predictions about how the coronavirus might influence future home design on Episode #174 of the podcast.
- For a detailed history of bathrooms, see Episode #177 where we dig into how bathrooms evolved over time.
- And for a fun take on plants and personality, there’s a piece that pairs houseplants with zodiac signs if you want to explore a plant horoscope.
We’re Digging

- In a recent post you can spot both our new Frame TV and the felt baskets Sherry mentioned that store our games.
- The Frame TV we bought includes the beige bezel, but you can order it without a bezel or select a different bezel color separately for a custom look.
- If your photos or artwork don’t display correctly on the Frame, resizing your image to 3840 x 2160 pixels solved the issue for us.
- For movie night, we enjoyed The Lovebirds—its trailer gives a sense of the film (note: some coarse language).
