Holiday Decor Day 18: Finish Home Projects and Share Your Progress

Remember back in February when I shared progress on a project in our son’s bathroom? Time has a way of slipping by. I started that project nearly a year ago, and if you were wondering why you haven’t seen the finished space yet, it’s simply because I haven’t quite finished it.

I’m actually, well, essentially done.

Done, except for one annoying detail: I still need to clean the paint off the mirror. Yes, really. A year after starting the project, there’s still paint on the mirror. It’s a small thing, but it keeps the space from feeling truly complete.

Cleaning that mirror is all it would take to call the bathroom finished enough. The room isn’t perfect and there are other little improvements I could make, but before the holidays I’d at least like to be able to say it’s done enough to enjoy.

I might even take and share some photos in a couple of weeks if I manage to add “take pictures” to my to-do list.

Do you have projects like that? The ones you started and are almost done with? Now is a great time to make a short list of last-minute decorating tasks or small projects you can finish before the holidays — especially for primary spaces like the kitchen, guest bathroom, or main living areas.

I’m not suggesting you begin an entirely new large project right now (although I have a history of starting things around the holidays). I work best under a little pressure. I’ve painted rooms in November and tackled bathroom fixes when a holiday deadline loomed. Holidays and gatherings are excellent motivators to complete those lingering tasks.

Let’s use that holiday deadline to push a few projects across the finish line. Even small tasks — cleaning a mirror, changing a lightbulb, touching up paint, or arranging a vignette — can make a room feel refreshed and welcoming.

Do you work best under pressure?
