Recently I’ve been writing about preparing my home for the holidays and hosting guests. While I adore creating a warm atmosphere for my own family, I also enjoy opening our home to friends. Inviting others over and sharing a cozy, festive time feels like a gift, and it’s one of my favorite ways to celebrate the season.

The idea of “holiday entertaining” can feel overwhelming. Even the word entertaining can make you imagine extravagant expectations — juggling acts or elaborate performances — when in reality hosting is about connection, not perfection. I’ve hosted everything from large gatherings of a hundred people to small, intimate get-togethers, and I’m involved in weekly hospitality at our church. It always takes thought and preparation to serve food and drinks and to make guests feel welcome, even when you keep things simple.

Here’s a little entertaining secret: focus on feeding people and offering a comforting drink, and many other details will fall into place. You don’t have to be flawlessly prepared. It’s more important to enjoy your guests and create a warm atmosphere than to impress them. That said, I love creating small thoughtful touches that add to the experience without causing stress.
Those small details are what make entertaining enjoyable for me. When I plan a few simple, special moments, I feel relaxed and confident as a host. Guests leave with pleasant memories, and my imperfections don’t matter.

Coffee is one of my love languages, so a coffee station is my go-to for mornings, afternoons and any event I host.
Not long ago I was browsing coffee makers at a local store. My daughter Courtney owns a Nespresso and recommended it; she even joked about hiding her milk frother from me. At the store I tried a VertuoLine machine and was blown away by the thick, frothy crema on top of the coffee — it tasted like coffee with real cream. I was sold.

Shortly after, Nespresso sent me a machine to try at home. I assembled it on my counter and brewed my first cup. It’s incredibly easy to use and consistently delicious. The included Aeroccino+ milk frother is quiet and simple to operate, producing perfect frothed milk for lattes and cappuccinos. Having my own frother has been a delightful upgrade.
The machine makes espressos, lattes and other coffee drinks quickly and reliably. My next goal — after finishing holiday decorating and my writing projects — is to learn latte art. I’ve practiced basic shapes, though my attempts so far haven’t matched the pictures. Still, learning to pour little hearts and leaves feels like a fun challenge.

I love my Nespresso. It’s a perfect way to elevate holiday gatherings because it’s both stylish and easy to use. Imagine setting a machine and frother on your counter for a holiday brunch — guests can choose capsules, add milk or flavorings, and enjoy freshly brewed coffee without much fuss.

To create a simple coffee station, display a selection of capsules in a clear container so guests can pick their favorites. Place cups, milk, and the frother nearby. Add optional flavorings like peppermint syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg or chocolate sprinkles, and a platter of croissants or pastries. These small touches make hosting effortless and memorable.
Consider setting up a coffee station this holiday season, even if it’s just for yourself. It’s a little luxury that brings daily joy and becomes a highlight for guests.
So what do you think — will you set up a coffee station for the holidays?
Even a simple station for one will bring you as much joy as it brought me.
Note: Look for seasonal offers and promotions if you’re considering a machine as a gift.
Many retailers run holiday promotions, including short sales and year-end offers that can make gifting a coffee machine more affordable. Check local or brand promotions when you’re ready to buy.
