Front Door Makeover Ideas to Boost Curb Appeal Quickly

So, it finally happened — I painted my front door. After far too much indecision, a season of bad weather, and plenty of procrastination, I finally picked up a brush and got to work. The whole first coat only took about an hour, which makes me wonder why I waited so long.

I’m calling this progress rather than an after, since the door still needs another coat and some trim work to really be finished. Even so, taking this first step feels good. The photos show it a little messy and mid-project, but that’s real life — not everything is a polished blog-before-and-after. At my house, change often comes in small steps rather than overnight transformations, and I’m learning to enjoy the progress.

I’m happy I finally took this step. I didn’t want to face another winter with a door that felt dull when the holidays arrived, so I told myself, “You can do this one step,” and I did. The door is painted Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore.

Here’s what the door looked like for the past few years:

It was a nice door but overdue for a freshening up. We had sanded it long ago and then stalled out before finishing.

How did I decide on the color? I noticed a beautiful blue in a new rug inside the front door. I like having a color flow from room to room, and since my home already features various grays and blues, choosing a blue door felt natural. I also have maps and artwork with blue tones, and the exterior stone of the house complements blue nicely. All of that made Wythe Blue an easy pick.

After comparing my blue paint options, Wythe Blue stood out. It’s a shade I already love and one that works well year-round — it looks good with fall, Christmas, spring, and summer decor. You can match the color in whatever paint brand you prefer, but this version is Benjamin Moore’s Wythe Blue.

Here’s a side-by-side of the door before and after this first coat:

Just a bit fresher, don’t you think?
