So, it finally happened. I grabbed a paintbrush and painted my front door. It only took about an hour for this front door makeover, but I procrastinated for ages—trying to pick the right color, waiting out bad weather, and making every excuse in the book. In the end I decided to stop waiting and just take the first step.
I’m calling this progress rather than the final result. I still need another coat and some trim work to finish it and make it look more polished, but at least it’s on its way. I’m showing it a little messy and unfinished because that’s reality around here—projects often move from “before” to gradual progress rather than instant, perfect “after” photos.

I’m thrilled to have taken this step. I didn’t want to face another season with a door that felt dull, so I told myself, “One step—just do this.” I painted it Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore, a shade I’ve admired for a while.
Here’s a quick look at how the door looked for the past few years:

The door was fine but clearly needed a refresh. It had been sanded long ago and then that was where the project stalled.
How did I pick Wythe Blue? I noticed a beautiful blue tone in my new rug just inside the front door. I like to create visual flow through my home using related colors—right now I’m using various grays and blues to tie rooms together. The blue in the rug and in some of my artwork made Wythe Blue an easy choice. It also complements the grayish stone on the exterior of our house, so the color feels cohesive both inside and out.

After checking my paint options, Wythe Blue felt like the natural pick—it’s a shade I already love. You can have any color matched in your preferred paint brand, but this one has been a favorite of mine for a while. I also wanted a color that would work with seasonal decor—fall, Christmas, spring, and summer—and this blue will look great year-round.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the door before and how it looks today:

So there you have it—a little refresh that already makes the entry feel brighter and more welcoming.
