Today I’m sharing four mood board ideas for a small bedroom refresh I’ll be working on this winter, using affordable, stylish pieces I found at Walmart. These options are accessible and budget-friendly, and they each offer a different cozy direction for the season.
As someone who loves being at home, I find seasonal projects uplifting—especially when cold months approach. In a recent post I showed my favorite feature in our new bedroom and mentioned this project as the next thing I’m excited to complete.
I’ll be making a few simple updates to our bedroom this winter to help the space feel more finished, comfortable, and personal. The goal is a room that feels cozy now but is easy to refresh when spring arrives.
Below are four mood boards we created to inspire the room’s winter look. Each one blends texture, color, and accessories with items available at Walmart, so they’re easy to source and won’t break the bank.
Shopping at Walmart has made seasonal decorating easier for me—there are plenty of stylish options, quick shipping for online orders, and the convenience of in-store shopping when I need something immediately.
Take a look at the four mood boards and tell me which you prefer. Would you mix elements from different looks? I often share progress on Instagram stories, so I’d love to hear which pieces you’d choose. The product sources for each mood board are listed below.

Did you pick a favorite? What elements spoke to you?
I call these “mood boards” because they convey more than style—they suggest how the room will feel. Mixing accessories, textures, and colors helps me imagine how the finished space will influence daily life and mood through the season.
I experiment with patterns, finishes, and accessories, sometimes blending different styles until a combination feels right. The room’s architectural features and what’s happening in life also shape the mood, so I enjoy pulling all of that together when I design.
If you want to refresh a room, try shopping your house for pieces to re-stage, adding a few seasonal items, or changing the art and lighting. You can also experiment with new furniture arrangements or a fresh paint color. For this bedroom, I’ll use a mix of new Walmart finds and existing treasures to create a layered, collected look.
Mood boards can be made with physical materials—poster boards or bulletin boards—or created digitally with tools like Pinterest. Use whatever method inspires you: the process is part of the fun and a great winter activity.
I’ll share the finished bedroom updates after the holidays. In the meantime, I hope these four ideas spark inspiration for your own space. Which look would you choose, or how would you mix them?
