Richmond experienced its first taste of winter yesterday with a light dusting of snow. It didn’t stick, so life went on as usual—no snow day for John.
Mostly usual, anyway. The light precipitation kept the installer indoors rather than out cutting crown molding and cabinet baseboards, so progress was modest. They managed to install the last few cabinets, slide the dishwasher into place, and hang about 99% of the range hood. The stainless steel “chimney” that will conceal the large pipe rising through the ceiling still needs to be attached. These aren’t the most dramatic progress photos, but here they are. Note: the dishwasher and hood are still covered in a protective film that will be removed at the end of the project to reveal their stainless finish. And yes, the installer’s tools and supplies are scattered everywhere:

We’re hoping today will be the last major work day, though crown molding, baseboards, doors, hardware, and microwave installation still remain on the checklist. We wouldn’t be surprised if the work spills into Friday. In addition, we expect at least one more day of work in about a week when the reordered corner cabinet arrives—it will be installed where the stove currently sits, and the stove will shift left to sit beneath the new hood. After that, the granite team can come measure for the countertops. It feels good to be deep into the process—step 426 of 500, maybe—though that’s a slight exaggeration.
